Students: One of the
most important things you can do to help get into college and qualify for
scholarships is participating in community service. There are many opportunities to serve and help
in Santa Clarita. Today I want to tell
you about Help The Children in Santa Clarita.
Help the Children feeds over 5000 families in Santa Clarita. They give food weekly to families, veterans,
and the elderly. People do not have to
prove they make below a particular income in order to get help. So if you know of someone that doesn’t have
enough food, PLEASE tell them about Help The Children.
You can help in many ways.
One of the ways is through Help the Harvest. Do you have a backyard with fruit trees? Would you be willing to donate some of the
fruit from the trees? Help the Children
will come to your house and pick the fruit to give to families in need in Santa
Clarita.
During the summer, Help the Children would really appreciate
volunteers to help them pick and deliver the fruit. This would be a great community service
opportunity for you.
Help the Children also has a facility in the Industrial
Center. Every week families go to pick
up food, and Help the Children would love it if you or your club, or your
family could come and volunteer a few hours any time in the year.
Help the Children has many different opportunities to serve
throughout the year. At the beginning of
the school year, they collect school items to help children. At Thanksgiving, they collect the goods for
Thanksgiving meals and at Christmas, time you have the opportunity to adopt a
family and help provide a Christmas meal and presents.
Help the Children is located at 25030 Avenue Tibbits, Suite
L in Valencia. Their phone number is
661-702-8852. If you have any questions,
please stop by and talk to Mrs. Goller in the counseling office.
