Getting Involved Is Just As Important as Getting Good Grades
Most people know that good grades are important for college. Did you that colleges also look at your involvement in high school clubs and community service? In fact, many of the scholarships that are offered to seniors are based on your school and community service.
If you haven't joined any clubs at Canyon, don't panic! On Wednesday, during both brunches, you will have the chance to check out many of the clubs and groups on campus. The clubs will have tables out on the quad and will be trying to recruit new members. Please take this opportunity to learn about the different groups on campus and join a few!!
If you haven't had a chance to do any community service, the city is a great resource that provides a lot of opportunities. Follow THIS link to go their website.

PSAT
Canyon High School offers the PSAT test to sophomores and juniors as a supplemental activity. To learn more about the exam and its benefits, please go to THIS link.
The test will be on Saturday, October 18th. Your first chance to purchase a test was during registration (it was on the same sheet as the PE clothes and yearbook). If you didn't buy a test, but would still like the opportunity, the last day to purchase will be Friday, August 29th at the ASB window. The test costs $20 dollars.

Please arrive to Registration at your scheduled appointment
time. At registration you get your
classes, books, and take your ID and yearbook picture (so make sure you are
looking nice!) This is also the time to
purchase things like your yearbook, ASB card, PSAT Test, PE clothes. It’s important to remember: You need to
bring your completed emergency card (both sides!) in order to get a copy of
your schedule.
Please make sure you arrive at your scheduled appointment
time. You should plan for the process to
take about 90 minutes.

Here are a few things we want to remind you regarding the schedules you receive at registrarion:
The schedule you get at registration is NOT final. We are giving you a copy of a tentative schedule during
registration so that you can check out the correct textbooks. If you find an error in your schedule, for example: you are in the wrong level of math, science, English, or if you are in a class
that you have already taken, please see your counselor during registration! On Wednesday, August 13rd, after 3 pm, you will be able see your schedule on Infinite Campus. PRINT IT OUT! That is the schedule you should follow on Thursday, August 14th.
What are the chances your schedule will change from the one you got at registration? There is a 95% percent chance your schedule will be have at least one change.
Do you want to see and talk to your counselor about your schedule? The ONLY time you are going to be able to do that is during registration. Once school begins you will be asked to fill out a green change of schedule request form. The reason for this is that we want you to be in class learning. Standing in line for hours in the Counseling Office isn't a good use of your educational time. So please...come see us during registration!
Here are a few things we can't do for you during registration:
We're sorry future athletes, but we can't drop your PE class class until we get the official rosters from coaches. We also won't be able to make teacher changes during registration.
Lastly, we want to say a few words about 1st period classes. There are VERY few classes that are being offered first period. Most students (even juniors and seniors) will be starting at 8 am. If you are placed in a first period when you get your schedule at registration, this could change! Classes are still moving around and you could be placed in a 6th period class by the time school starts. Please don't plan your work or transportation schedule until school begins.

Summer Break!
The counseling blog is on summer break and will be back at the beginning of August.
For those of you anxiously awaiting your summer registration packet, they should start arriving in homes around July 21st.
For our incoming freshman, WELCOME!! You will receive a call to remind you, but please keep August 1st open so that you can attend our Freshman Round-Up. It is from 10 am to 12 noon and is a fun event that helps you become familiar with your new campus.
Here are some important dates to help with your planning:
August 4th: Senior Registration
August 5th: Junior Registration
August 6th: Sophomore Registration
August 7th: Freshman Registration
August 8th: Make-up Registration
The first day of school will be August 14th.
Please make every attempt to attend Registration. It is the only time you can sit down one on one with your counselor once your schedule is done and work out any issues. Time to say goodbye....
Congratulations Seniors!!! We are going to miss you!
If you get so excited tonight that you forget to pick up your diploma, it will be waiting for you in the counseling office starting Friday morning. Don't forget to hug and thank all the people that pushed and nagged you to get in your homework and study. They have been waiting for this day for a long time!
