Sophomores and Juniors: Would you Like To Take A Class At COC This Summer?

Starting with the summer after your 10th grade year, Cowboys are eligible to take classes at College of the Canyons.  If you take classes at COC while you are a student at Canyon High School, tuition is FREE!  You just pay for fees and books.  If you are interested in learning more about this process and what classes you can take,  there will be a workshop this Late Start Wednesday, March 4th at 8 am in the library.

We hope to see you there!!

FAFSA Is Due March 2nd, Then What?

If you have completed your FAFSA, don't forget to stop by the counseling office and show your counselor the confirmation email.  You have until Friday, March 6th to sign up for the $500 FAFSA scholarship.

Once you have filled out the FAFSA, you should receive a Student Aid Report.  This report is a summary of the information you provided the government on the FAFSA.  If there are any mistakes or missing information you will get an email or letter to make changes.  If everything is correct, there will be a link to confirm that your FAFSA is complete and correct.  Once you confirm, your SAR will be sent to all the schools you listed on your FAFSA.  Schools will then use this information to send you a financial award package.  Please view THIS video for a more detailed explanation.
If you don't receive a Student Aid Report in the next week, please call FAFSA at 1-800-4-FED AID.

Seniors: More FAFSA help is on the way!

There are ten days left to turn in your FAFSA.  Once you have completed your FAFSA, make sure to visit your counselor so that we can put you in the drawing for a $500 dollar scholarship!

We want to remind you, if you qualify, the FAFSA gives money for trade school, community college, or a four year university.  Everyone should apply!  If you are still unsure what the FAFSA is all about, check out  THIS video.

Please remember, you do not need to have your taxes complete to fill out the FAFSA.  You can use your taxes from last year.   Later, when you finish your taxes you can go back in and have the IRS automatically update your FAFSA form for you.  THIS link will take you step by step through the IRS data retrieval tool in the FAFSA form.

If you haven't completed your FAFSA, and would like more help, THIS video goes through the FAFSA application with easy to follow directions.

Please stop by the counseling office if you have any questions. We hope to see you soon!

FAFSA FRIDAY part two.....16 days left!

Seniors:  The deadline to complete the FAFSA is March 2nd.   Please make sure to meet this very important deadline.  If  you have questions about specific items on the FAFSA, please call the free assistance line at 1-800-433-3243.

Part of the FAFSA is the Cal Grant Application.  The FAFSA awards you free money from the government based on your income.  The Cal Grant awards you free money based on your Grade Point Average and income.  When you fill out the FAFSA, you will see a page that discusses the Cal Grant.  It may ask you to print out a form to have your school counselor verify your GPA.  This is not necessary.  Please read below:

Cal Grant GPA Verification
There’s no need for Canyon Seniors to fill out a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form because:    Cal Grant GPA’s were electronically uploaded by Canyon’s Counseling Department.

WebGrants for Students
Are you wondering if your Cal Grant GPA has been received by the Commission?  If you have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you can go online and check the status of your Cal Grant application by logging on to the WebGrants for Students (http://www.csac.ca.gov/doc.asp?id=1305) and creating an account.  This secure site will let you view the status of your Cal Grant application, update your address, view payment history or tell them you’re changing your school.
You can also check by calling 888-CA-GRANT (888-224-7268)
Or email them at studentsupport@csac.ca.gov
